The Top 3 Things To Do Before Selling Your Home In Eugene Oregon

Top 3 things to complete before selling your home in Eugene Oregon.

There are 3 major things that are actually pretty simple to fix before selling your home in Eugene Oregon. If you don’t fix them before, when your house does go pending, these three things will hold things up and cause you to have to come back and deal with it later. You can make a quick trip to any hardware store to get these items.

#1- Earthquake Straps

The number one thing that I see that we run into is no hot water earthquake straps. Earthquake straps hold your hot water heater in place during an earthquake. If you don’t have them you risk the hot water heater falling over. Additionally, if you have a gas hot water heater you risk a gas line rupture inside of your home. This will fill your house full of gas and potentially cause an explosion.

Earthquake strapping is really easy to install. They come as a set of two metal bands. They slot together and anchor right into the studs in the wall near next to the hot water heater,

The things you’ll need for installing them is a drill or an impact gun to take the lags and put it into the wall. Just swing by Home Depot, Lowe’s, Jerry’s, or any of the local places and ask them for earthquake strapping for your hot water heater. The cost of earthquake strapping is probably about $20.

The average person could probably install them in 30 minutes.

#2- CO Detector

CO detectors are required now everywhere by law. You should have one on each level of the house. So preferably one near the kitchen or the hallway by the kitchen. They need to be near the bedrooms to alert people in the home when they are sleeping.

All the same local stores carry CO detectors. In a hard-wired system, you can replace a couple of smoke detectors with the CO/Smoke detector combo units. They are simple to install. If that seems too complicated just buy the single CO detector and put them up in the appropriate location.

#3 – Smoke Detectors

The last thing that you need to get is actually to make sure that you have working smoke detectors. If you have hard-wired smoke detectors, you need to replace them with new hard-wired detectors.

They’re relatively easy to install. If you are replacing the hard-wired detectors, make sure to turn off the breaker for that circuit. If you don’t have a hard-wired system just buy the battery-operated smoke detectors with 10-year battery life.
